You may have already received your yearly appeal letter in the mail; it is a reminder of how crucial our work in New York continues to be.

As 2015 gets underway, we are in a position we don't often find ourselves, celebrating a major environmental victory for New York - the ban of high volume hydraulic fracturing!

And it is because of the hard work and dedication of our many volunteers and supporters, like you, that we can share in this victory!

But this does not mean our work is over - far from it.

Hooray for the towns of Southampton and East Hampton, Long Island for instituting bans on those single-use plastic bags that litter our landscape and impact wildlife. Birds get entangled in the bags, and sea life can mistake them for food and die from ingesting them. Now it's high time for all of New York to do the same right thing.

New York’s highest court, the Court of Appeals, will hear oral arguments shortly in the Atlantic Chapter’s lawsuit challenging the right of the Village of Painted Post to sell water for hydrofracking in Pennsylvania without conducting an environmental review of the impacts of the water sale.  The case may set important precedents on standing and on whether the State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA) applies to municipal bulk water sales.
