Hudson River desalination boondoggle back on table

After years of battles over an environmentally harmful and unsafe proposal for a desalination project in irreplaceable Hudson River habitat, Suez/United Water has asked for a final decision on its proposal.  
 
The NYS Public Service Commission (PSC) set a new public comment period, which ended Oct. 5. More information is avaliable at www.sustainablerockland.org.

I am an avid cyclist, and during a recent ride, I passed a man walking around his yard carrying a container of RoundUp in one hand—the large container filled with this herbicide—and in the other hand the wand that applies the herbicide to the identified undesirables growing in his nearly perfectly manicured lawn.

In 1977, the leaders of ExxonMobil were told that burning oil would heat up the planet disastrously. Their top scientific minds agreed that this greenhouse effect was caused by man-made carbon dioxide, and there was a short window of 5 or 10 years in which to make hard decisions about changes in energy strategy.
