The Solution: Alternative energy

Options for Indian Point

NYC’s energy of the future? The City Sierran, Summer 2011

This article from NYC Group Chair Ken Baer discusses ways in which we could reduce our demand for energy and install solar panels to replace Indian Point.

Electricity Production

The Indian Point reactors produce about 2,000 megawatts of electricity. The New York City/Westchester grid uses 9,000 to 13,000 megawatts daily, depending on the temperature.

In the first quarter of 2011, renewable energy production in the United States surpassed nuclear production in overall quantity and percentage.
